A question about restarting a server?

Hello everyone

One day, all of my websites within a server shows a message:
Error establishing a connecting with the database or something like that.

I really had no idea what happened. I did not know what to do and by accidently restarted the server where i host those sites. And they turned normal again (can be accessed as usual).

My question is: is it necessary to do restarting a server once in a while? Or was it related to the hot temperature of a server (if it is possible) so it is needed?

Any explanation about this would be appreciated since I have no clue and need the information.

Thank you in advance

It should not be necessary but if you have problem like mentioned above you can restart as well, just visitors do not reach while restarting server, so let's think about search engine's crawlers. If you will restart regularly or you need restart oftenly may crawlers does not reach website and it could be harmful these websites which you hosted in server.

Restarting is fine, 2 - 3 minutes of downtime is not that bad.

But you should check your logs why the database is not accessible. If it's a linux server, the culprit could be that your database ran out of ram and it crashed.

I did not think about the search engine's crawler one. So good to know. Thanks for your explanation.

Oh I see. Thanks for your explanation. I will pay attention about the logs if things happen next time.
