Hello Everyone,
I wish to start a web design agency and need advice from my Babiato's family on which theme/builder they prefer. I want your views on whether you would go for and advice me to go for either Astra Pro or Elementor Pro. I use theme/builder loosely because they both offer these options.

I met someone here a few months ago who suggested Elementor because I build a couple of templates and use as my portfolio instead of Astra Pro's portfolio that could suddenly mess their customers. He tried discouraging me from going with Astra because Astra upgraded their framework a while back and messed up his previous projects and that I should not risk using and displaying Astra portfolio because things may change and a customer gets burned.

One thing I like about Astra unlike Elementor is once you buy ..... it is for a lifetime while Elementor is for one year.

Please share your thoughts and let me learn. Also, if that member is reading this, kindly DM because our chats seem to have been deleted with the site crash.

Many people (including myself quite often) actually use them together as essentially they play different roles.

Thank you for your reply and opinion. I have only used Elementor once and in my view I like the navigation better than Visual Composer (WP Bakery) which I bought back in the days but never liked nor used. I have tried using Astra too and I thought it was similar to Elementor.

The two reasons I was interested in Astra Pro was the lifetime unlimited websites option as well as the ability to showcase all its templates as one's portfolio and easily design what a friend selects. Is there a plugin or way I can place Elementor templates as a portfolio in which my friends can view the template layout in view? Do share if there is.

As for Elementor Pro, there are many many options and templates available but it's capped at 1 year licence and I don't know how to display its templates like Astra Portfolio plugin, anyone care to share how to do it?

No problem, even though I must say, there's still another less significant typo refusing to leave the stage - you'll see it, if you check well.

So, do you think @gggg is right or wrong about his/her views on Astra being slow compared to E-Pro?
Also, I feel that one "may" need Elementor when using Astra but I am not sure one will need Astra when using Elementor, just my thoughts.

Oh yeah! Lastly, do you know how to get Elementor templates to display in a portfolio layout as Astra's Portfolio plugin does, please?

If you are going to use Elementor Pro I'd probably recommend using the Hello Elementor theme. The beauty of the Elementor ecosystem is the number of addons available for it meaning you can build pretty much anything with it.

Regards speed, well there are too many factors that affect this to give a yes/no answer.

Elementor Pro actually has its own Portfolio Widget...

If you work with both deeply, you will see your question wrong.
But for simple projects with basic configuration you can use one of theme.

Really, you can create most of features with just Elementor Pro but it works different from the way of theme.
If you only care about the design you get, Elementor Pro, basic-Hello theme & few addons enough , but you also care about the process & time to finish your project & website performance, the advanced customized theme like Astra is the answer.

Thanks for the intel on E-Pro's portfolio widget. I'll think about it. I'm sorry for my obvious question but does portfolio widget come with preset templates like Astra's portfolio plugin and if no, will one be able to embed/list/display Elementor templates/template kits (I'm not sure the term used) because a video from their website looked as if it's mainly for graphic designers to display their work and not for website templates in which the public can take the template on a test drive.

Thank you for your interesting insight. I might be on the side of option 1, in which I focus on design and get work done fast. However, could you please explain what you meant by process & time to finish project & website performance: are you say it Astra takes a faster to finish or what?

By the way, have you heard of or used Bricks Builder?

Astra not basic theme, it is power framework to build website fastly with page builders. For global things, layout, color, typography, header, footer the theme give a better way to build & scale design.
You can do all with page builders like Elementor pro but this solution coming with more time to work & pages have more extra codes. In professional web design, the same design not mean the same quality, not only how it looking but also how it loading.

Thank you for your reply. You've nailed it down to 3 tools. AP + E + UA. It would be nice to have Astra's Agency package, I guess.

Hmm...I feel as if I am in a tug of war and I'm the rope that everyone is tugging at. I'm drawn closer to Astra Pro with all the points of team Astra. Unfortunately, I don't know why @gggg deleted with his interesting points about Elementor, it made the discussions more balanced.

My final thoughts on the subject are basically that a lot depends on the site you are creating.

For me personally...

  • ALL my sites use Elementor/Elementor Pro (Some with extra addons, some not).
  • Only SOME of these sites use Astra.
