I have a really simple trick by which you can register .com and other domains under 2$ or less.
You should have a paypal account.
Visit Networksolution website and add the domain to cart.
Now in checkout choose one hosting that is monthly recurring. It costs around 1.5 $. You wil get domain free.
After payment make sure to cancell the subscription on paypal side.
