Hello from Brassy and her dogs!

Hello, everybody,
Thank you for letting me join this forum! It has been seven eight years since I last created or administered websites and I am a gazillion years older than most of you so for me, 8 years doesn't seem that long. But wow, things have changed!
I found this lovely community when I was looking for opinions on Brizy page builder. My design / coding skills were never more than primitive. . I did a bunch of sites for myself and people I worked for that looked and functioned reasonably well because I can follow tutorials -- but I feel I am starting utterly from scratch.
All I can say is thank you deeply for sharing these resources so I can truly try before buying. Due to illness, I am not working full-time and while I will ultimately buy a pro license for whatever tool I end up using, trying to choose by playing around with the free versions was very frustrating.
I'm a writer/journalists/content creator. Married twice. These days it's me and my 14 year old dogs, Beattie & Liam.
I like hiking around and enjoy the countryside but I'm in a urban area right now (hoping I can afford to move where there are more trees in future!)
Used to be kind of an Android hobbyist (really enjoyed rooting devices and taking them apart) but in the interest of earning a living, I'm hoping I get hyper-focused on all things Wordpress instead.
I'm also a big reader / audiobook listener -- four or five books a week minimum ... I love classic literature as well as quality horror and sci-fi.
