I've registered .tk .cf etc., domains a few days back it works fine. I was unable to register a domain
I've changed my IP (service provider 4g instead of broadband)
cleared cookies and cache
changed browser
I signed up with a new Gmail, boom, and I Registered a couple of domains successfully

and btw if thread starter still needs a domain, I can Register him 1$ Domain from namecheap

Its better go with some cheap extensions than free
you have full control over than domain when you buy
But in free you don't have much control, have seen many stories shared, domain registrar blocked access on renewal, domain cancelled without any information.

My advice is to try using eu.org if for personal use, don't be freenom because he has already damaged a lot of illegal/phishing websites on that domain
