Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual - ACFML v5.2.0
What's new
- Translated pages carry the inLanguage property in the JSON-LD structured data that ACF outputs.
- When an AI agent creates an ACF field group through ACF's abilities, it can now choose the group's translation mode.
- With ACF Extended, bidirectional relationship fields now stay paired on translations after WPML copies, duplicates or translates them.
- Taxonomy custom fields set to Copy are locked on term translations.
- On the Custom Fields Translation settings, the underscore system field of a locked ACF field is now locked too.
- When ACF Multilingual is active without Advanced Custom Fields, a notice now says so and offers to activate or install it.
- The String Translation packages for field group labels are named after their field group, so it is clear what each one holds.
Performance
- ACF Link and URL fields that point to your own pages now keep their #anchor, query string and sub-path instead of being cut to the bare page address.
- "Overwrite with duplicate" on a field group refreshes ACF's field cache, so it no longer causes PHP warnings.
Fixes
Read the release announcement for WPML 5.2 for the full story behind this version.
- A row inserted into a Copy-mode flexible content field reaches translations that were edited in the WordPress editor.
- With one field group per language, a translation's admin editor shows its saved values, and saving there keeps them.
- Saving a translation of a post with repeater fields no longer causes a fatal error when its previous translation job cannot be read.
- ACF options values translated in String Translation appear on the site, and completed translation jobs no longer overwrite manual String Translation translations.
- ACF Select fields are copied correctly to translations of existing pages.
- Field groups loaded from acf-json send their translation preferences to WPML.
- Options-page values read after switching language return the switched language, not the language the request started in.
- Flexible content layouts keep their disabled state and custom name in translations.
- ACF bidirectional relationships are kept per language.
- Duplicating ACF Extended bidirectional posts no longer adds the translations to the original post's relationship.
- Row sync, Copy once and field-group setup also run on saves through REST, the front end, WP-CLI and ACF's own data store.
- Clone field subfields get the right translation preferences, and a Link field's target is no longer sent for translation.
- ACF blocks are supported with post-meta storage, inline block fields and field groups assigned to blocks.
- Changing an ACF field's translation preference also updates existing term translations, not only posts.
- On sites set up with WPML 5.0, ACF field groups open in the WordPress editor again instead of WPML's translation editor.
- Post types created in ACF while ACF Multilingual was deactivated get their labels registered for translation.
- The post editor no longer asks to translate a post manually when its field groups mix "Same content" and Expert modes.
- Upgrading from an ACF Multilingual version older than 2.2.0 no longer leaves an untranslated duplicate "Field Group Labels" package per field group.
- The field-group modes notice reads correctly in Spanish, Hebrew and other languages, without wrong plural wording around the field count.
- New layouts are copied in posts with Flexible Content fields.
- Saving a translated post in the WordPress editor no longer removes its system fields.
- A Taxonomy field connects the translated terms instead of creating new terms when you save in the WordPress editor.
- Pagination in repeater fields works on translations.
- The ACF Multilingual and WPML SEO descriptions translate on the Plugins screen.
- Built and released together with WPML 5.2.0, with the same shared library version.

Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual - ACFML v5.1.0
Fixed in v5.1.0
This release stops reordering repeater rows from damaging translated values, and makes row changes fast again on large pages.
Repeater and flexible content fields
Moving or removing a repeater row on a post with many rows and many translations no longer takes minutes: renumbering the rows of the translations now takes under a second.
Adding an image to a sub-field set to Copy no longer marks every translation as needing work.
Reordering repeater or flexible content rows no longer damages a translated sub-field that holds several values, such as a Link field.
On an ACF Options page, reordering rows no longer leaves such a sub-field with only its last value.
ACF Options pages
String Translation no longer collects old ACF Options strings that no value uses any more.
The notice on a secondary-language options page now tells you how to change a finished translation.
Translated values and field groups
A post object or relationship value of 0 now stays on the translated copy, instead of becoming empty.
Restoring a field group from the trash now keeps its WPML field lock.
Also in this release
The warning about field groups with different translation modes now appears once in the block editor, instead of twice.
Saving a post in the classic editor no longer breaks the redirect on sites that display PHP notices.

Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual - ACFML v5.0.0
This release makes ACF field-group translation setup clearer, fixes repeater and flexible content rows drifting out of sync in translations, and improves how link, media and Options Page fields are translated.
A more guided way to set up field-group translation
- A new Multilingual Setup screen lets you review and set the translation option for every ACF field group in one place.
- Field groups without a translation mode are now automatically set to “Same fields” when you complete the WPML setup wizard or turn on Translate Everything.
- When a post’s field groups use different translation options, the editor now lists each one with a link to fix it.
- Changing a field’s translation preference in Expert mode now shows a confirmation before it re-translates your content.
Repeater and flexible content fields
- Reordering, adding or removing rows in a repeater or flexible content field no longer scrambles the matching rows in translations.
- Translations can no longer change the repeater row structure when a field group shares the same fields across languages.
Link and URL fields
- A link field’s custom title and URL are now sent for translation instead of being silently copied.
- Internal links inside Link and URL fields, including archive links, are now translated automatically.
- Custom link text is kept when translating duplicated pages.
Media translation
- Alt text, captions and titles from ACF image and gallery fields now appear in the translation editor when media library text translation is enabled.
- You now see a notice when ACF media texts won’t be translated because “Translate Media Library texts” is off, with a link to turn it on.
- Gallery, image and file field attachments are now always included in translation packages, and adding an image to a gallery correctly marks the translation as needing an update.
ACF Options Pages
- Content on ACF Options Pages created before WPML was set up is now sent for translation without needing a manual re-save.
- Copy fields on Options Pages that existed before WPML are now filled in secondary languages.
- Copy-once subfields inside a Group on an Options page now copy correctly to secondary languages.
ACF blocks
- Link fields set to Copy inside an ACF block now correctly apply that preference to their title and URL.
- Translation preferences are now respected for Clone and Group fields used inside blocks, and fields no longer drop out of translation jobs.
Also in this release
- Field groups on taxonomy terms are now translated automatically and can be read correctly on the translated term.
- ACF conditional logic rules that depend on a relational field now work correctly in secondary languages.
- The checked state of copied checkbox and radio fields is now clearly visible when editing a translation.
- Fixed a fatal error that could occur when editing an ACF Options page in a secondary language without WPML String Translation installed.
- Advanced Custom Fields Multilingual now follows WPML 5.0’s new way of switching languages, so every page keeps the language it was built in.
- Posts with field groups using different translation options are no longer wrongly translated by Translate Everything, and posts using Localization-mode field groups are no longer wrongly queued for bulk translation.
Security
- This release includes security hardening.
