I just bumped into another type of leecher I didn't think I'll meet.

It's the kind "I do enjoy all your sharing but if you want me to share you have to pay"
This leecher (I don't think there's a better description of it - please note IT not him) I've seen him thanking for some nulled scripts he downloaded from babiato. This is a totally nice behavior: to thank for what you get. But in the same time he brags about latest version he have for different apps but that's all: bragging. Not thinking to share back to community. If you approach him about the update it ends up in asking you to buy it from him.
Actually I have to be fair: he shares back to community. He shares scripts untested from other free sharing sites. So I would ask you to take care when you download his shared scripts. Do a full antivirus test and load them into a sandbox server and analyze outside calls the scripts are doing.

This is a part of conversation I had with him this evening:

I'm not even sure that he bought that script.

We all know that leechers are part of the community. But most of them are just lurking without saying anything. We know they exist but we don't see them. This one is even lower than a regular leecher. He's just laughing in everyone's face asking for payment in exchange of what he can offer while gets everything he wants for free.

Let me present you this (whatever kind of person is) to the community of babiato:

Everyone say hello to

People also sell nulled stuff on p-store.net which is downloaded from Bab.t.

I know lots of sites that sell or share for paying members stuff taken from babiato. I found myself a script that I nulled on couple sites like those. There's nothing you can do.

That's true but at least they don't get to build reputation on forum from other's work. It'll end up in natural selection of them as I've seen it's happening already: most new users that first post to do is to request things are kinda getting ignored.

I have fought for this all the time I have been around this place, but it always fell for the deaf ears of the owner of the forum.

It is only two things that are important around here and that is the member and post counts, nothing else. The quality of the members or the posts made by those isn't important at all.

Around here it is quantity before quality. Anyone saying something else is lying.

If quality is chosen over quantity then this forum will grow more and more cause it will build a really good reputation and attract more and more users.
If it's going to quantity then it will end up in a ghost forum (like many other hat kind forums) with only few loyal members and whoever else remembers every once in a while to check it.

I know you can't get rid of these leechers but when something like this is happening it's better to ban the leecher instead of leaving him to build a reputation.
Think this: how does it look when a member with some rep share something and when a zero rep new member shares something?
Usually in the first case you get it for granted cause he have reputation built. In second case you're totally circumspect and beside scanning the files you also ask other's opinion.

As a moderator, I tried to do my part getting rid of individuals doing no good for the community at all but was removed from the staff because I banned peoples witch was clearly spammers & scammers.
I was even told by the owner that the DDoS attack was my fault because I banned some useless asshole..!

@slvrsteele You are absolutely right in everything you write above.

I dont want to restrict something but sometimes it's good choice for improve that.
Posting new thread, uploading resource, selling something, get "trusted" badge , sending PM etc should be hard -my opinion-

Kinda agree with that, getting a resource appoved is easy enough, and there is no double check for updating it, making it really easy to ship malicious code. Just saying.

It's true but you can also make the user also contribute buy limiting the download link to someone who has a good enough reputation ( Example: To download this file you have to own 50 reputations)
How does the user get a reputation?
To display the download link you have to like the post first (Gives the user reputation)

By doing this each user will contribute to the community by uploading something.

That thing with like or comment to see the link I always hated on forums. It's a spam generator.

There is absolutely no point in trying to implement something like that. This isn't really a private resource forum, people mostly share already publicly available stuff. There isn't even a guarantee that stuff does not contain malicious code here. As I said above you can easily do it if you want.

As for leeches, they will always find a way to get what they want, and the only result of this will be more shitposts and duplicates and useless reuploads from these guys, resulting in added moderation, and loss of traffic, which means loss of AdSense revenue.

Exactly, just fills threads with useless thank yous and whatnot, people post everywhere else in the forum to get their "reputation" up... I like babiato the way it is, sadly just like any board with some trafic, it needs a certain amount of moderation. Why do you care if people download stuff you shared without clicking thanks?

That's the whole point of warez and p2p, there's a lot of hit and run and in the few decades this has been around, no one found a perfect solution yet.
