That is just a notice. All the Pro widgets work without the need for activation. See attached screenshot.
If needed, the activation notice can be taken away by modifying /vendor/pluggable/product/src/License.php
Attached is a renamed version of that file which anybody can use for comparison purposes. That will take away the notice.

PS: This also applies to the newly uploaded v2.3.1

Check the differences between the attached txt file and your php file. It's all in there.
Do not mess with the code if you do not know what you are doing.

It's because I've tried to install it twice and I got this fatal error on both tries. What else could it be?

This you will have to verify.

It could be some incompatibility with some other plugin or theme you are using.
It might be bad server-side configuration.
It can be N factors.
