This is xonfusing...do we need the licence to activate theme or not...I'd prefer not to have to try and edit files myself

Followed steps as mentioned. Zipped the folder and uploaded. Got an error with stylesheet.

I think the problem may be in the plugin you use for the site cache (wp_supercache w3TotalCache, wp-rocket, etc) that blocks the css.
I use the following plugins for highspeed: Autoptimize and Cache Enabler.
