You sound like you can use some help managing your server,I have used these guys in the past for support price is very reasonable.i need some help to put my domain online, can someone help me with that? i have the server and domain but i dont know how put online
I know this is an old post that for some reason was bumped up today.
Generally it goes like this:
Step 1: Get domain name.
Step 2: Get hosting account.
Step 3: Use nameserver details given by hosting account and add to your domain name.
Step 4: Log into hosting account and this is where you have a million options. If you're using WordPress most hosts will have some type of auto-installer. If you're making an HTML site or a site based off of a different script there can be many variations.
Read the documentation to your script if using a script.
If it's based off of a script usually you upload files in Public_HTML (if using CPanel) or a different directory depending on control panel (if any). Then some scripts will require you to create a database. Usually there is an option like MySQL where you can create the database.
Once you create the database you have to put the database information into the script. Some will have you do it directly through an installer file, some will have you put it into a config file. Read the documentation of the script for this.
Important things to know about the database. Usually it will ask for a host name the answer is usually localhost. You will also need the database name, database username, database password.
