According to your needs, maybe you can take a look on this plugin.

This plugin can totally hide your site as based from WP or even you can show that the site is based on Drupal for example.

Choose "Ghost" in the settings then save. Try to scan the site using several WP scanners you can find from Google.

Take a look and try it. Let us know how it works with you. ;)

The thing is, it won't hide the origin if the source code is viewed, and as far as I can tell, the OP wants to hide the fact that they're using WP even if the source code is viewed, which is frankly impossible.

You can spoof the services so it looks like you're using other CMS, or just hide the CMS altogether. But, you can't do that to the source code.

As what I mentioned earlier, it is possible by using this plugin. Even if the source code is viewed, it will not show the WP standard folder naming and etc except those attributes that has the term "wordpress" or "wp" and etc. You cannot do anything about it unless manually change those class for example.

Just for example, one of my site gearnify.com, if you scan it in https://www.isitwp.com/ or in https://scanwp.net/, it will not be able to detect it is based from WP.

Sorry to say, it is still impossible to completely hide it. (https://builtwith.com/detailed/gearnify.com) this is the tool i usually use, and if the average joe didn't know it, then maybe sure, they'll be oblivious to the fact the site's running on WP.

All i'm saying is, hiding the CMS source from scanners is possible. Hiding it from the source code? not a chance.

P.S. if the Builtwith link is not viewable, here's an image

Yes I agree with you, "completely" hide it is impossible but at least to average joe it will be hidden and even to usual web scanner on the net looking for wordpress sites?

Exactly my friend. We can't treat everyone as an IT expert. We do our part, it's like trying to disable right-click on a webpage...one way or another, people will always find ways to copy content.

I think anything needs to change to .httacess?

You are right. It does not completely hide the website from some website sniffers. But it does clone the website from being viewed through source code
