How i can improve SEO with backlinks?

Hello there,

I have studied the competition of some companies for which we provide digital marketing solutions, and I see that the competition from one of these companies has a lot of backlinks, most of which seems to have been generated by bots.

Because of this, they are ranked first in Google for the keywords we use for this company's website.

How can we do the same? Bots? Manually comment on keyword + url on websites that I can find in lists on this forum?

I've studied a bit more this subject and i found out how they do it. (They use a software like "SEnuke" and stuff like that).
