This question still troubles me when I work on rebuilding a website from waybackmachine. The original owner does not care about the content that's why he did not paid renewal of the domain. But the content actually belongs to him. So what are your views on this.

How are you going to copy the content using waybackmachine? Manual or automated process?

Yes, it's legal.
However you would need to check every single post, as maybe it has been copied by others, or the site had an RSS feed and was shared online, or..

Nothing happened like that. The content has not been shared online anywhere.
