Yes you can do as you said and thinking , take backup of database and after fresh installation restore it, it will work

I've tried this method .. but the probability of errors is high, because they make updates to the database too (adding new tables and columns). This could work .. if you check every and sync single table/column from the old vertion to the new one. You have to add new tables/columns manually and theck if any of existing ones are changed.

How to update to 2.7
There is auto update option, but for that we need purchase code
Manual updation is possible? If yes how ?
In simple terms. how to update from 2.4 to 2.7 without loosing data
PM me and Give your installed cPanel access too.
Edit: No don't PM your cPanel details as because when I checked the code, the update is getting from directly dev side and it's not possible to get it from his server without purchase code, so you need to do it manually.
