You can just skip the step where it asks you for the purchase code. In case it doesn't let you go to the next step, you can write anything in purchase code and then pass on to the next step.

In order to Update this script manually, you would just need to replace the application folder with the newer version file's application folder. And then would need to enter in the connected database details within database.php file in config folder (application=> config => database.php) or you can even upload the database.php file from the older version, that shouldn't be a problem. I would suggest you to must have a backup of database as well as a backup of application folder from the previous version (just in case you end up breaking something or in case you might not like the newer version) at least you would have an option to revert back to the older version. And sorry I've not got v2.6.1 yet. But i will upload the resource as soon I have it for sure.

I will try this method, but I think this is not enough, because the database (mysql) also have to be updated, not just files. There are now tables and new columns in the existing tables in the newest versions
