I wanted to know about .to domains. I have some questions which i will share below.

1. Why they are preferred by pirate sites?

2. Why .to domains does not show any whois record?

3. Is there any alternative other domain extension with the same advantages?

4. Is it still necessary to create site with .com domain for SEO? (I mean i barely see any other domain in Google search results except .com)

5. Is it harder to rank other domains that not are .com/.net/.org ?

That's all i wanted to know. Searching these things in Google gives me irrelevant results which doesn't answers the question, so i created this thread. Also thanks in advance!

1. I've seen a lot of torrent sites use this TLD. I've always assumed because the .to = torrents.

2. Whois protection. I doubt the TLD has whois protection on by default.

3. I'm not sure that it has any advantages?

4. Not at all. I think regular people still tend to trust sites with a .com more than other TLDs, and it's generally best to use it if available; but it's definitely not necessary.

5. For what I've read, the TLD doesn't really influence SEO that much anymore (if at all).

Personally, I always make the effort to get the .com. It's always difficult, most good .com domains are either taken or "premium".

You can get creative and still generate some good ones though. I wouldn't worry too much about it, like I said (according to what I've read), TLDs don't really influence SEO much anymore.

I mean if you check .to domain whois it does not show anything. It's literally blank and does not giveaway simple info like registration date, update date and expiry date.

Also thank you for the answer. Also i think something shady going on the background because .com always ranks better.

.com always ranks better.
SEO encompasses many things including high quality content, organically placed keywords, link building, the speed of the website, and a host of other things. The only problem, Google has never publicly listed all of the factors it considers when ranking pages in its results.
