Make sure to browse many different sites within your industry/niche and take a look at what your top competitors are doing and try to replicate it but, ALWAYS add your own touch to the design.
Also, head over to YouTube for tutorials on stuff like how to choose the best color palette for your site. There are some great tutorials out there.
