If you know any similar plugin that tracks statistics locally and is not bound to use google API or any other 3rd party API I'll be very interested in it! Please share. Thanks!

Dude, I'm so grateful for that post! My only concern is that I don't want to load resources from a subdomain or another domain. I'd rather use it as a WP plugin that is hosted on the same domain just so I don't slow up the page with third party resources. Many thanks! Will check all of them now!

I thought your concern was on privacy but I was wrong :)
Any additional plugin adds to your server load. Now dns can be prefetched and cached (if you use 3rd party service) while server-side of the the plugin (assuming they will write to db) not. Performance wise, this could be worse than using 3rd party service. Test thoroughly.

Yeah, I care both for loading times and privacy. Seems there is always a tradeoff. There is a client of mine who wants to have all her visitors represented in real-time combined with a chat service. The chat service isn't important because I think we are going to build it from scratch but the real-time visitors and the visitors' statistics are because she wants to stay informed.
