You can change any text globally
You have to change it from language folder. For every available language, has to be done manually.
As for second question, don't think that's possible by default, you need to customize it if you're familiar with codeigniter

I installed 2.9.4 on local, and no activation was needed.
Didn't check on an actual host/server but might be the same.

If you´ve got a previous version and it is nulled, you can update, there´s no problem. Ive already got 2.9.4 and is working after updated

Thanks, guys, for the info; I just installed it on my server and have no problems. So I also confirm updating works.
